SMU Students, Alumni, Apply to Serve Community as President鈥檚 Ambassadors
Students and alumni looking to participate in community events on behalf of 海角直播 (SMU) learned how they could make a difference Thursday, when the President鈥檚 Ambassador Program hosted its annual showcase in Bechtel Hall on the Oakland campus.
More than fifty people attended the event, including students from the Sacramento and San Mateo campuses. The President鈥檚 Ambassadors are student leaders who promote unity and engagement among the SMU student body and represent the University in a variety of public venues, including community service events, speaking engagements, and student recruitment activities.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a great way to get our students to engage with the community we live in,鈥 said Andre Singleton, Associate Director of Enrollment and Student Services.

Enabit Gebremariam, a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) student, told the audience serving at public events like the Laurel Street Fair and at the monthly First Fridays art festival in downtown Oakland made her feel more connected to the city.
鈥淭o work and live and study in Oakland, we鈥檙e part of this community,鈥 Gebremariam said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to get out there and meet people, and let them know what we do and what 海角直播 is all about. After all, we鈥檙e right here in the heart of Oakland.鈥
Many of the current ambassadors cited the annual . The ambassadors helped provide a variety of health services to residents at the iconic church in August.
鈥淚 love providing community health,鈥 said Jalia Kizito, an ambassador and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) student at the Sacramento campus. 鈥淎t Allen Temple, it was great to see everyone from all the different programs at 海角直播 working together. When I saw that, I thought, 鈥楾his is what SMU is all about鈥 鈥 coming together to help one another.鈥
